![]() If you value a person’s ability to have the skill, creativity, and time and effort required to create something with simple tools, then yes. I have come to that conclusion it depends on what you value when you perceive art. I have asked myself this question many times over the years because I rely heavily on digital tools for my creativity. Perhaps this explanation of artificial intelligence and its use in art begs the question, “Is it cheating?” Things like understanding language, recognizing landmarks, and even creating art. These mathematical models are becoming very good at predicting things that we normally attribute to human intelligence alone. These models are trained over a long period of time using huge amounts of data and calculations. By looking at many pictures of cats and comparing them to other things (such as dogs, people, and street signs), the system is able to understand what a cat looks like in a mathematical sense. These similarities begin to be classified and weighted in mathematical models. The algorithm looks at this data and begins to understand the similarities between the images. The dataset is all the images that Google runs on its system. This is the basis of how systems like Google Image Search work. The algorithm is “trained” using very large data sets, which it classifies and understands based on repeated testing and feedback. Although today’s AI systems are much simpler than the human brain, the principles on which they operate are essentially the same. The idea is quite far from the reality of modern artificial intelligence.Īrtificial intelligence (or deep learning) algorithms are essentially computer programs that are modeled to work similar to how our brain works in a neural network. I often envy those who can create art almost effortlessly with such simple tools! Being able to implement something that is just an idea in your head is a skill I really long to have.Īlthough the concept of AI will often conjure up the pop culture idea of machines taking over the world and becoming intelligent. I can’t do these things with pencil and paper or a brush. As long as I understand the techniques and principles of shapes, colors, balance and shading. One of the things I’ve always struggled with is the fact that I’m not very good at drawing. I continued to spend some of my time honing the skills and applying them to situations that arose from time to time – working on projects for my friends and family or making things just for fun! It took me away from graphic design and a career in art, but it didn’t take away my passion for creating it. Other professions would be more likely to provide this. While it was important to me to be able to do something I enjoyed, I also wanted to support my family and earn enough money to live comfortably. Although it was something I would have loved to do, I think it would have been very stressful for me, especially when I was just starting my career in such an industry. ![]() (Specifically website design) It didn’t take me very long to realize how saturated the graphic designer market was and how difficult it would be to make a living from it as a full time career. ![]() As songbird populations plummet, US law enforcement is cracking down on the trapping, trading and competing of these birds.Early on after high school I spent quite a bit of time building a potential career in graphic design. Now with regular travel and emigration between Cuba and North America, the tradition of songbird contests has crossed an ocean. Throughout a turbulent period of economic sanctions and political unrest, these small, beautiful birds have provided companionship, entertainment and friendly competition within the community. For hundreds of years, some Cubans have caught and kept songbirds and held bird-singing contests. Karine Aigner explores the relationship between Cuban culture and songbirds, and the future of a deep-rooted tradition. These birds are highly prized for their sweet voice and feisty spirit. A Cuban bullfinch is positioned alongside a road so that it becomes accustomed to the hubbub of street life and therefore less likely to be distracted during a competition.
