Even if you aren’t planning to participate in the Open this year, it’s still crucial to be proactive and keep yourself from becoming another injury statistic. It has been proven time and time again that a stable core helps prevent injury. We’ve already talked about how much we push outside our known limits during these few weeks, and there is no better way to prepare your body than by making your core as strong and solid as possible. With the CrossFit Open barreling down on us, it is the perfect time to focus on core strength. So if you need accountability to help you get into the gym on those upcoming gloomy days, let the Open be your motivation. We will all come together as a Fit-Fam community to do the workouts each week, cheering each other on, learning, growing, and enjoying good company. You VS You each week as you begin to dig a little deeper and reach beyond your comfort zone. A time to push yourself past your own limits, while in the comfort of a safe place and knowledgeable coaches. It’s an opportunity to see what you can really do. It’s more than just a worldwide competition though. The Open is a world wide event, 3 weeks, one workout per week. This is what we train for all year long (well, it’s one of the FUN reasons we train). What is one goal you would like to accomplish through Eximo? I’ve traveled to 49 out of the 50 states. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? Just as our sun sets in the West every evening, it rises again in the East in the morning, as do we…rise up every morning to shine like the Sun! I get up every day with the goal of improving. Seneca stated, “ Begin at once to live and count each separate day as a separate life. you just don’t let chips and salsa run out! My wife doesn’t consider this a meal but it sustained me in college….chips and salsa! Just can’t resist. I saw everyone come together and continue to “GET SOME” through virtual workouts. My most memorable experience at Eximo was over Spring/Summer 2020 when the “box” shutdown due to COVID19. What has been your most memorable experience at Eximo?Ģ020 was a tough year for all of us. I enjoy Krav Maga, Thai Boxing, and my kids keep me on the ground with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Little different with the COVID, the city was shut down, so everyone was outdoors running/walking at Central Park. Just this week, I ran around Central Park, NYC. ![]() It’s great seeing her improve on her running and beat dad! I enjoy running, one of the nice things about my job is that I get to run in different environments. She’s on the Friendswood JHS cross-country team, so running every day. Lately I’ve been running with my daughter. What other types of sports or activities do you like to do outside the gym? Past and/or present? In addition to the Air Force, I have two kids that require an insane amount of time and energy, so Eximo has helped with that. Not only have both my mobility and strength increased but my energy level has also increased. What changes have you seen since joining Eximo? Hitting the “standard” gym was not pushing me physically and mentally like Eximo does. I’ve always been an individual that looks forward to constantly pushing my physical abilities. I get to fly an undisclosed airplane over an undisclosed location. I’m currently a member of the United States Air Force stationed with the 147 th Attack Wing at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base.
